We are a local intentional community called Oaksong: a special 8-acre property 12min from downtown Asheville that feels much further out into the woods than it is. We’re a small community of cottages & camping sites; cultivating a way of life that’s closer to the earth and each other.
Our Mission
To co-create a sanctuary with people we love through wise stewardship of natural and financial resources, so that we can grow deep roots and establish physical, emotional and financial security in multi-generational community together.
Our Vision
A place where there is a sacred balance of sovereignty and community, and where all members live in interdependence and reciprocity with each other: human, earthen, fauna and flora.
Our Values
- Presence
- Bring your full attention and presence to every interaction you have. Notice when your attention is fragmented. Take time to pause. Name what's happening.
- Relationship
- Connect. Prioritize relationship and quality of connection over goal achievement. Seek connection with the other humans in every shared space.
- Sharing Power
- Notice power dynamics, and question when power gets stuck with one person or group. Step into power when it’s needed from you, and immediately look to see how you can pass it on.
- Mutual Benefit
- Strive for relationships that balance giving and receiving (both human and non-human). Be aware of what you are receiving when you give, and what you are giving when you receive. Value reciprocity.
- Healing
- Question what works for you and what doesn’t. Consider your needs. Prioritize self-care. As you heal, you will be better able to face the unknown, creatively solve problems, empower others, and build community.
- Knowledge
- Acquire the best knowledge from any and all sources that will enable you to improve your performance. Share your knowledge proactively. Provide and solicit challenge consistently and respectfully.
- Dignity
- Honor the uniqueness of individuals, and remember that we are stronger in community.
- Authenticity
- Speak and express your truth. Be vulnerable. Speak up if you’re not being heard. Say the things that are hard to say. Practice integrity and do what you say you’re going to do. And remember that without compassion, authenticity can cause harm.
- Radical Compassion
- Remember that we are all healing from something. Notice & adjust to holding space when someone’s triggered. Engage quiet voices. Meet people where they are – even the most taboo or shameful places. Be kind. And remember that without authenticity, compassion can cause harm.
